11 Months!

She did it! She finally started crawling! Its been about 2 weeks and she is all over the place. She loves to chase Max around house. He thinks its about the most fun he's ever had too. She's super fast and its the cutest little thing I've ever seen.

She had two more teeth break through on the top so she's up to a total of 6 now. It looks like there are more that are pretty close behind too. She is loving being able to chew up so many different kinds of food. She loves Chinese food. She can't seem to get enough fried rice and lo mein. She learned how to drink out of a straw but still gets surprised every time the water hits her mouth.

Her favorite thing to do in the bath is color with the bath crayons. She covers the sides of the tub with every color and gets really excited every time she gets to use a new color.

She gives kisses and says "Mama" now. Its about enough to make my heart burst. Her sweet little personality is infectious and people go crazy for her everywhere we go. He little personality is developing into some more and more fun every single day. She brings so much joy into our family. We can't imagine our lives without her.

10 Months!

Georgia has learned some fun new tricks in the last month. She now points and claps. Her favorite thing to point at is the light and she says "light" in a breathy whisper when she does it. Light is her first and only word at this point. It's very exciting around here. She still isn't crawling but is so close that its crazy. She does get around a bit by scooting but she is still basically immobile. It definitely makes my life a little easier. Her two front teeth on top have finally made the final push through and she has quite a few more that are looking close.

She keeps trying new foods and loving all of them. She thinks its great to feed herself and everyone else.. She is already good at sharing. :)

She loves being entertained by anyone who will smile at her but she doesn't really like being held by strangers. She has also suddenly decided that she is not a very big fan of her big brother Kyle and she starts crying the second he tries to hold her. Its pretty funny.

The time is just flying by and I can't believe that my baby will be a year old in just two short months!

P.S. We just finished remodeling the house so we had to say good bye to our fun yellow walls. I miss the warm of the yellow but I love having something new. It just seems so fresh and clean and bright.

7 Months!

Every month seems to go by faster than the last. Georgia's 7th month has been as fun as the previous six. We finally got her in for her 6 month check (3 weeks late). She is a petite little thing. It's throwing her doctor off... I had to explain to him that Max is really skinny too. We agreed that she is definitely eating enough... The girl eats like a little piggy. :) We are going to try to fatten her up a little bit over the next couple months anyway. She loves her baby food and will eat pretty much anything you put in front of her. Her favorite are anything with berries and squash.

We got her into her room and she is now officially sleeping through the night. I've been working to get it decorated. I painted an old dresser that has been in Thayne's family for a long time and it turned out awesome. I can't wait to get the room finished completely... It should be done within the next couple of days.

She still hates being on her tummy. She is sitting up without hesitation now and prefers to sit rather than lay down. She loves playing with Max and his crazy ways of getting her attention. He has started to call her "Sissy". He picked that up from the neighbor boys that call their little sister the same thing. It's pretty cute. He even told someone the other day that her name is not Georgia anymore, it's just Sissy.

We all love how her giggles and cooing have reached a new level and her little voice is just the cutest thing I've ever heard.

She is still the most mellow and happy baby I ever could have imagined getting. :) We are obsessed!

Bring it on 2011!

The other day I was going through some of my posts for the past year and I came across the one about New Year's last year. I talked about how 2009 was a tough year and that I hoped that 2010 would be better. Come to think of it, I've said that about the past 2 or 3 years. So, this year instead of saying "I hope that 2011 will be a really great year", I'm saying, Bring it on 2011! Give me all you got! I can take it. After the past few years I can definitely take it. Don't get me wrong, There have been many great moments and memories. Some of the best in my life in fact. But I have never been so stressed in my entire life... and I'm not a stressed out person in general. So maybe, just maybe, the universe will send me a little break if I tell it to give me all it's got. I think it's been trying to send me a message that I can't tell it what to do. Let's hope it works. I doubt it though. I have a lot coming up this year so if the universe isn't going to give me a break, just pray that I can get through everything with a little grace and my dignity. I guess that's all I can really ask for.

Here's what I am looking forward to in 2011 and I'm sure I'll have some surprises thrown in throughout the year too.

1. Tristyn is turning 18 in a couple weeks and will graduate in June. She is probably going to go to SUU in the fall. Another one of our kids is grown up. I can't believe it.

2. Kyle is getting married on February 5th. I can't believe that he is going to have a family of his own and that I am going to have a daugter-in-law. Sometimes I feel so old!

3. Kyle and Maddie will be welcoming their first child around March 25th. She will be the first grandchild on all sides of the family so there will be no shortage of spoiling and adoration for this little girl. Even though the idea of being a grandma does freak me out a little I can't wait to spoil her. Talk about feeling old sometimes!

4. Kassidy will turn 14 in June and start high school in August. Seriously! I know she will pass through it with flying colors... she is such a great girl and really has her head on straight. She is so mature for her age that even though part of me still believes she is still 6 there is another part of me that believes that she is a few years older than she is. Funny how that works.

5. This one already happened but it will take awhile for it to set in and seem real... Jakson turned 12 and was ordained a deacon on Sunday. I'm proud of the little man he is becoming and I pray every day that he will stand true to himself and what he believes. Life is so hard for kids these days and its hard to stand for what's right sometimes. I really hope that he will have the strength to do that.

There are a lot of other things with extended family that we also have to look forward to this year and I know that life will sneak up behind us with plenty of surprises too. This year is looking like it may be the busiest one yet but I am ready for it. So bring it on!

What are you looking forward to this year?

So THANKFUL

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I won't be anywhere near my computer tomorrow so I thought I'd post this today...

I really love Thanksgiving. It is one of my favorites. I love the simplicityof it. It hasn't been commercialized. There is no fictional character that we count on to deliver anything to help the day be better. It's plain and simple. It's about family and reflecting on how good we really have it. I am Thankful to be spending the day with my family. Thankful for my incredible kids. Thankful to have my mom and dad over. Thankful for the 2 sisters of mine who are also over. I wish I could say I was Thankful to have all of my siblings over but that just doesn't happen anymore. We are too spread out. But, I'm still Thankful for them. And Thankful for the modern technology that makes it easy to stay in touch with them. I'm Thankful for my warm home, clothes to wear, and cars to drive. I'm Thankful for food in my fridge and storage. I am Thankful for my prosperity and for the blessing of being able to share it with people who are less fortunate. I am Thankful for a job and being able to find one so easily in an economy that is struggling. I'm Thankful to live in this place... a country where I can live the way that I choose and in a community that I love. I'm Thankful for Thayne and all that he does for me and our little family. I'm Thankful for my kids and how amazing they are. I'm Thankful that they have gone easy on me and made being a step parent easy and I'm so Thankful that I have had the opportunity to be a part of their lives. I'm Thankful for Kyle and his amazing personality. I'm Thankful for his friendship. I'm Thankful for the man that he is growing into. I'm Thankful for Tristyn and the special relationship that I have with her. I'm Thankful for her positive attitude and the way that she gracefully deals with the obstacles in her life. I'm Thankful for her trust in me and her willingness to share her thoughts and feelings with me. I'm Thankful for Kassidy and her fun personality. I'm Thankful that she loves to be creative with me and is my partner in crime for those things. I'm Thankful for how much she makes me laugh and the fun spirit that she brings into our home. I'm Thankful for Jakson. I'm Thankful for his energy. I'm Thankful for all of the entertainment he always gives us. I'm so Thankful for Max. I'm Thankful that he chose me to be his mom. I'm thankful for all that he teaches me about being a mom and being a good person. I'm Thankful the love that he gives me. I'm Thankful for his adorable little personality. I'm Thankful to be able to watch him grow up and to be a part of that process.

I have a lot to be Thankful for. My life is good and God has blessed me so much. I'm so Thankful for a day to be able to focus completely on all of the many blessings that I have. I'm so Thankful to know God and to know that he knows me and has given me everything that I need and that he always will.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

stepPARENTHOOD

I adore all of my kids. Being a step mom is actually one of the easiest things I’ve done in my life. I think people in general just assume that being a step parent is hard. It’s not. Sure, there are situations when it is but I honestly think that those are few and far between. The hardest part has been the few times that I’ve had to deal with the ex-wives (Thayne had been married twice before me). But I mostly stay away from that because it really is just not my place to be arranging things for the kids with their moms. All in all, being a step mom is one of the greatest things I’ve ever done and I can’t imagine my life without any of the kids in it. Here are a few things that I have learned from being a step mom (a lot of these also apply to being a mom):

It is possible to love someone else’s child like they are your own.
Kids just want to know that they are loved unconditionally and supported.
No one can replace a child’s mom or dad.
Kids like having a parent that they know they can talk to about anything.
It is not ok to yell at your kids or say mean things to them.
Kids understand that parents make mistakes. They just want their parents to own up to them and apologize when they are wrong.
Kids are easily influenced but parents should never take advantage of that.
Kids want to be allowed to be their own individual person. You can’t force them into being someone they are not.
They start out as kids but all you have to do is blink and they are suddenly adults.
They don’t always make the decisions that you want them to but you have to let them make their own mistakes and hope that they can learn from them quickly.
It is never fun to watch your kids suffer in any way.
No matter how old they get, you never stop worrying for them and hoping for the best possible life for them.
The best thing you can tell them is that they are loved.
When they seem like they might be in trouble you should always try to help them in whatever way you can. It may be a conversation or something you can physically do but no matter how awkward or uncomfortable it is your job as a parent.
Every parent wants their child to turn out better than themself.
Telling your kids that they shouldn’t make the same mistakes you did doesn’t make you a hypocrite, it makes you a good parent.
The standard minimum parent time schedule issued by the state for non-custodial parents is crap. It is impossible to be a completely involved parent when you only see your kids every other weekend. It is best for kids to have equal time with both of their parents.
A non-custodial parent that wants to go to court to get equal time with their children had better have an unlimited amount of time and money and patience for a never ending and ridiculous court battle. And an incredible (and expensive) attorney.
The good always out weighs the bad... no matter how much crap you have to deal with, the kids are always worth it.

I have had some headaches to deal with but there is no limit to what I would do for these kids. They make my life full. I am so blessed to be able to be a part of their lives and to see the incredible people that they are growing into. I have learned so much from them about life and everything that is really important. They are my family and they are my friends. And I really do love them like they are my own. Kyle, Tristyn, Kassidy & Jakson, thank you for being the best step kids anyone could ever ask for!

FAMILY PHOTOS JULY 2010

In July wee spent some time in Monticello with my brother Sam, his wife Roxy and their cute little family. Roxy has picked up photography and she is amazing. She took some time one morning to take new family photos for us. There were so many amazing ones that I couldn't post all of them here but I tried to narrow it down to our top favorites.
